About this course

This course is designed for those who wish to train to become a Fire Alarm/Intruder Alarm Engineer by undertaking an industry recognised apprenticeship. The apprenticeship comprises of the City & Guilds 1853-02 Knowledge based units 001, 002, 004 and 006 and the City & Guilds 2882-02 Competency assessments.

Must be employed within the Fire/Intruder Alarm industry. All applicants will undertake our initial selection test.

What topics will it cover?
• Working effectively and safely in Electrotechnical Environments
• Applicable Electrical & Electronic Principles
• Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR), Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS), and Functional Skills
• Basic Principles and features of Fire Detection and Intruder Alarm Systems, including Control and Indication Equipment
• Common Circuit Configuration
• Typical Power Supplies
• Basic Principles of Planning, Specifying, Commissioning, Handover, Corrective & Preventative Maintenance, and Administration of Systems.
• Practical Installation, Commissioning, Maintenance and Fault Finding.

How long will the course take?
Typically 24 months, comprising of twelve 1 week blocks and on-site assessments.

A series of online examinations and practical/theory assignments, plus a series of practical assessments.

We will then process your application and contact you with a date for you to attend one of our Training Centres to complete our initial assessment. Providing you are successful we will then give your details to potential employers. We may then contact you to attend an interview with a view to getting you employed for the full term of your apprenticeship.
