Asbestos Awareness

Asbestos is one of the biggest occupational health issues. Estimated figures suggest that by the year 2018 up to 9000 people per year will die through exposure to asbestos fibres. This figure is greater than those who die through road traffic accidents in the UK. In excess of 6 million tonnes has been imported into the UK with about 4.4 million tonnes incorporated in building projects.
Who is this course aimed at?
This is a mandatory training requirement under Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations for all those who are exposed or liable to be exposed to Asbestos or those who supervise or manage such employees.
How long will the course take?
This is a half day course.
What topics will it cover?
Candidates who complete this training will:
• History, types and properties of asbestos
• Possible effects on health
• Overview of relevant legislation to include the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006
• Locations / identification of possible Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs)
• Operations that could cause fibre release
• Asbestos Surveys
• Procedures upon discovery
Is there an exam?
Candidates will be assessed on their input during the practical exercise and their feedback.
When will I know if I've passed?
On the day - all successful candidates will receive a UKAT certificate. Certification lasts one year and there is a mandatory requirement for annual refresher training.
How much will it cost?
£120+VAT per candidate or Special Bundle fee of £105+VAT per candidate when booking 3 or more places.
